The SuperFrog Gallery in SF this past weekend recently held a reception for Japanese Pop Artist and illustrator Yoshitaka Amano.Opening night consisted of Yoshitaka Amano him self along with Harajuku Lolitas hosted the event. The General Consul of Japan, Junichi Ihara also attended the event with a reception honoring Amano after the exhibit. The SuperFrog Gallery is the latest addition to San Fransisco Japantown. The gallery equipped with state of the art theater with to amazing levels of Japanese boutiques perfect for any kawaii lover!

Leslie Holt is a Bethesda, Maryland based artist that creates Hello Masterpieces. Holt infuses the Japanese mascot Hello Kitty into traditional 17 and 18th century classic contemporary, transforming  it into a modern day pop art.

Sanrio’s most beloved character the Mickey Mouse of Asia created by, Ikuko Shimizu in 1974 has been an American cultural icon the moment kawaii kitty opened her big black eyes in the west. Influencing American art and now is a international mascot with global recognition.

Tim Burton collaborates with Dark Horse Deluxe to create characters from his popular book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories.
The Dark Horse x Burton worked together closely to make these characters as “real,” based off the Tim Burton The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy story. The 6” and Large-size vinyl versions of these characters are now available for the Burton or Dark Horse collector. Three releases are planned for the end of 2009: Oyster Boy, Stain Boy, and Toxic Boy.

The Tim Burton other new releases, including two heat-sensitive coffee mugs, a pull-tab journal that animates a Burton watercolor scene, a new light-up journal, playing cards, T-shirts and note cards in light-up boxes.

Fans of Tim Burton can also look forward to a retrospective show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York featuring the career of the man himself. The exhibit will run from November 2009 through March 2010. Dark Horse Deluxe products will be available at the museum, and the original sculpture maquettes for the figures will be a part of the installation. With previously unseen characters being exhibited.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants, the Pavillon De L´eau invites fans to see their favorite yellow sponge at the House of Water exhibit in France starting July 10, 2009.

Pavillon De L´eau‘s House of Water exhibit is a all ages and free event featuring the Nickelodeon icon SpongeBob him self! running till November 21, 2009.

The exhibit will feature several original painting of SpongeBob through historic art, with a presentation from the artist, on how this media icon inspired his paintings. A in depth panel with character presentation entitled “watery context” the challenges we face as humans, conserving Earths natural resources. The panel will include SpongeBob SquarePants, WATER OF PARIS speak about preserving and the consuming fresh water. An additional panel will include members WWF, which will talk about wildlife conservation.

Outstanding original 1984 Transformers #1 art, published by Marvel Comics, penciled by the late great Frank Springer, inked by Kim DeMulder and signed by Bob Budiansky.Bob Budiansky who signed the piece was the editor of this issue and wrote the majority of the comics during the Marvel run.
