National Inventors Month is this August, and Inventors Digest magazine and partners come together for the “2059 Essay Contest” for middle school and high school students.

The assignment consist of answering the question “What will the world look like in 2059?” in 500 words or less what technology, tool, product or service will shape our lives in 2059 and why.  The Grand Prize is a brand new laptop computer!

A panel of select judges, including Chris Moore of Project Greenlight will picks four First Cut finalists and fans at Aniboom will pick the final one. The Five Finalists will be announced on or around September 16, 2009, after which they will have until November 4, 2009, to complete a Final Cut. Those Five then automatically compete for the Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000, and a $15,000 development deal with Aniboom, and the winning entry air on The History Channel. Grand Prize Winner will be announced on or around December 2, 2009.

Nickelodeon is expanding its annual animation festival with an official Call for Entries from recent animation graduates and aspiring moving-picture artists.The Nickelodeon Animation Festival includes categories for General Submission, 15 Second Shorts, and Game Character Design, deadlines for each are currently set for the first week of September 2009. The grand prize is $5,000 toward the creation of an original animated short as commissioned by Nickelodeon, who will provide the production and budget support for a two-minute animation.
