Kevin McShane aka Cartoon Kevin

Artist/Cartoonist/Actor Kevin McShane also known as “Cartoon Kevin” has portrayed himself in 100 different variations inspired by famous cartoon characters and their respectable artist styles. This collection of caricatures took McShane, two years in the making. It was had for me to choose my favorites but I did like the Bill Plympton, John Kricfalusi, Ralph Bakshi and Terry Gilliam, ones only because I love them as artist so the homage to their art is pretty cool. You will have to visit Cartoon Kevin’s site to pick out your own.
Since the dawn of animation, few characters have proved more enduring than Cartoon Kevin. Based on real-world cartoonist and animator Kevin McShane (right), Cartoon Kevin has found his way into the work of almost every significant animator and animation studio from Windsor McCay to Walt Disney, from Osamu Tekuza to Pixar. With his signature black t-shirt, blue jeans, and Chuck Taylor sneakers, Cartoon Kevin has delighted audiences from movie to television screens worldwide for over 100 years.

The Batman: Court of Owls Book & Mask Set

Ok I have to admit I really want The Batman: Court of Owls Book & Mask Set. Which includes the best-selling epic The Court of Owls Batman #1-7, and a PVC Owl mask with white elastic band. I really was trying to snag a free one at one of the past convention last years but never managed to get my paws on one, so now I have to debate if I really want to invest $24.99 for the set, what do you think worth it? Batman: The Court of Owls Mask and Book Set (The New 52) the 160 page softcover written by Scott Snyder and features art by Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion will be released on October 2, 2013.
Ralph Bakshi’s The Last Days of Coney Island

Animator Ralph Bakshi is back with an all-new animated “horror” short called The Last Days of Coney Island a story that takes place back in the 1960’s when Coney Island, New York was crowded with crooked cops, broken hearts, jaded strippers, and singers. Bakshi has reached out through Kickstarter to raise money to fund The Last Days of Coney Island. The project has a $165,000 goal with hopes to make its debut in December 2013. It’s also rumored that Matthew Modine, Jack Nicholson, Abel Ferrara, and Quentin Tarantino has shown interest in the project as well.
Now be forewarned Bakshi doesn’t make animation for kids examples Fritz the Cat and Heavy Traffic were initially X-rated in their day. While Bakshi believes that an animation could be treated just as seriously as any adult drama, which you can see through his like Wizards, the animated version of Lord of the Rings, American Pop, and Fire and Ice. Bakshi last movie he produced was 1992′s Cool World with Brad Pitt. I am very excited to see what The Last Days of Coney Island as in store considering I live down the street from CI.
I have posted a few rough storyboard panels, random character designs, original backgrounds along with clips from The Last Days of Coney Island straight off the desk of Ralph Bakshi below. Oh also if you pledge through Kickstater to found this project Bakshi will send you sketch!
