Death of a Superhero is a 2011 German drama film based on the New Zealand novel of the same name by Anthony McCarten. The film was shot on location in Ireland. The story follows A dying 15-year-old boy who draws stories of an invincible superhero as he struggles with his mortality. Slowly the young boy falls into a world occupied by his alter ego comic book superhero. This story reminds me a bit of (just a bit) Cool World an 1992 American live-action/animated film directed by Ralph Bakshi. About a story of a cartoonist who finds himself in the animated world he created, and is seduced by one of his characters, a comic strip vamp who wants to be real. Death of a Superhero US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18, 2012.
